Finding The Dream Wedding Venue

Posted on 27 April 2022

With so many engaged couples having to postpone and cancel wedding arrangements due to the Coronavirus pandemic, soon to be weds are looking ahead to 2021 as the year that they finally get to say ‘I Do’.

Here in the UK, weddings are currently restricted to 15 people, in a seated outdoor venue that is permitted to be open – making things more than a bit tricky for that dream wedding to go ahead! As per the government roadmap, step 3 will see groups of 30 allowed in private gardens and secure indoor or outdoor permitted venues and finally in June, step 4 will hopefully see all limitations and restrictions removed – fingers crossed!

Many couples have waited so long for their wedding day that there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel this year at last, and many wedding venues are already seeing enquiries and bookings soar as venues prepare to open in the not so distant future – but what do couples look for in a wedding venue and how can venues appeal to couples looking for their dream venue?

According to the UK Weddings Report 2021, the UK is set to buckle in for a 2022 “wedding boom”. With a backlog of weddings sitting on a healthy budget, couples of today have high expectations and almost two years of research under their belt. It’s been reported that 65% of engaged couples have postponed at least once, which is a huge amount of cancelled weddings that are raring to go ahead.

Furthermore, 82% of couples who opted for a Covid permitted, cosy 15 people or less small ceremony, will choose to celebrate twice – meaning that some couples who have already been married legally, will be looking for a venue to accommodate a second celebration when they are permitted.

But what about the venue itself, and how exactly have people’s perceptions of their dream wedding venue changed? We know that more than ever, people are beginning to appreciate being at home and spending time in the countryside, exploring the UK’s rural areas. So it’s interesting that research has found that 40% of engaged couples are looking to prioritise “lovely grounds” as a feature in their venue and that venues with the “rustic” vibe gain popularity amongst engaged couples searching for their wedding venue.

Today’s young engaged couples are tech-savvy and things are progressively moving online – meaning that virtual tours are gaining in popularity, and with two-thirds of engaged couples being in the age bracket of 25-33 years old, most couples are of the millennial generation, characterised by familiarity with social media, mobile devices and the internet – so it’s safe to deduct from this that venues increasingly need to be modern thinking and ‘down with the kids’ shall we say!

More and more wedding venues are looking to diversify when it comes to their offering – with some couples looking for a traditional wedding and others leaning more towards temporary structures with a ‘country’ feel such as barns, tipis, Geodesic Domes and more. Saying ‘I Do’ in a Geodome is a fairly new concept, but one that more and more couples are drawn to. Dome weddings allow space to be created anywhere; on farmland, on stately home grounds and more. TruDomes 18m wedding domes lend themselves to wedding ceremonies perfectly, the spherical structure allows for more room and seating and the domes are completely weatherproof in all seasons; something that is paramount for British weather, even in Summer!

So, if you are a wedding venue owner or a couple looking for the perfect wedding venue, hopefully our tips have helped you in some way.
