Atop one of London’s most iconic landmarks, a magical winter wonderland has come to life. TruDomes and The O2 have partnered to create a life-sized geodome snow globe, now the highlight of the “Up at The O2” rooftop experience. This festive attraction is the perfect way to celebrate the season.
The Spark of Inspiration
In 2017, Daniel Hurst, Head of Attraction at Up at The O2, witnessed a simple, heart-warming scene at a Christmas market in St Albans: a family laughing inside a small snow globe. That moment sparked a big idea. What if visitors to The O2 could experience the same joy, but on a grand scale, with London as their backdrop?
The idea lingered for years, evolving with time. However, delays arose due to record-breaking seasons and the pandemic. In 2023, Daniel and his team decided it was time to make the dream a reality.
Turning Vision Into Reality
Building a snow globe 52 meters above ground wasn’t easy. The dome needed to be weatherproof, lightweight, and safe—all while creating a magical winter scene. That’s where TruDomes, a British manufacturer of eco-friendly geodesic domes, came in.
TruDomes collaborated closely with The O2 team to design the perfect dome. Made from aircraft-grade aluminium, the structure is rust-free and durable, able to withstand London’s unpredictable weather. Inside, the space offers a winter wonderland with falling snow, the aroma of seasonal spices, and a stunning view of London.
An Experience Like No Other
The Snow Globe opened on November 22, 2024, as part of the “Up at The O2” guided climb experience. Visitors step into a cozy, snow-filled world, greeted with complimentary gingerbread cookies and panoramic views of London’s skyline.
