Frowen Fields Camping & Glamping, Whitland, Wales

TV stardom for TruDomes as we help a young family to achieve their dream:

TruDomes takes great pride in helping fulfil our customers’ dreams.  Those dreams often involve a desire to escape the noisy, cramped surroundings of the city and establish a new, self-sufficient life in the tranquillity and open spaces of the countryside.

That story, typical of countless TruDomes customers, was featured in the Channel 5 television show, A Country Life for Half the Price. The episode, first aired in 2021, followed a young family moving from their suburban bungalow in Reading to the Welsh hills of Carmarthenshire.

The attraction to life on a farm was evident in Helen, Ash and their two sons, Ben and Joe. Their two-bedroom property in Reading occupied a quarter-acre plot of land bursting with a small menagerie of animals including ducks and two pigs, Percy and Chopsy. The Channel 5 cameras accompanied Helen and Ash as they put Percy and Chopsy on the lead and took them for a walk (or should that be a trot?) on the streets of the city!

The stifling experience of Covid-enforced lockdowns convinced Helen and Ash to relocate almost 200 miles to a rural property with a 21-acre plot which matched the scale of their ambition. The site was a working smallholding with stables, providing an opportunity to establish a farming income and get back to nature. They have added to their collection of animals, with sheep, chickens, goats, pigs and ducklings roaming across the site.

Helen and Ash established a business, Frowen Fields, which includes a petting farm and a campsite featuring a 6m dome supplied by TruDomes. We worked with Helen and Ash to offer their guests a unique glamping experience. Configured to accommodate up to four people, their Sandstorm dome features a range of bespoke upgrades which illustrate how our accommodation can provide enhanced luxury and comfort.

Adorned with apple green curtains, the dome includes natural insulation, a skylight window, a solid wooden door, solar LED lighting, a solar USB charging station, and an Anevay Traveller Stove. The dome also has a field kitchen, an eco-toilet, an alfresco bath/shower, a seating area and a private stream! Following the popularity of the TV show, Helen and Ash named it ‘The Humble Dome’ after the presenter, Kate Humble.

As a certified member of The Greener Camping Club, Frowen Fields is committed to maintaining eco-friendly and sustainable standards on its site. TruDomes is delighted to see the family thriving in their new life. Frowen Fields is a wonderful experience for any glamper, providing stunning views of the Preseli Hills and the West Wales countryside, with ample opportunities for hiking, and exploring natural streams, and woodlands -all just 15 miles from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. In addition to the scenic beauty, the guests can enjoy a cosy games room equipped with books and a range of complimentary activities.

Helen, Ash, Joe and Ben should be very proud of what they’ve achieved as urbanites-turned-countryfolk. TruDomes are certainly proud to be a part of their story.
