Torrisdale Castle Estate, Scotland

Torrisdale Castle Estate is nestled in Western Scotland, on the eastern coast of the Kintyre Peninsula in Argyll. The estate features the historic 19th-century Torrisdale Castle, which has been owned by the Macalister Hall family for five generations, dating back to around 1870.

In the 1980s, the family transformed the estate into a self-catering business, offering a variety of cottages and eco-friendly bothies. Today, it continues to flourish under the stewardship of Niall and his wife Emma, who have expanded the estate’s offerings since taking over in 2013.

The family is dedicated to sustainability, recently installing a biomass boiler that heats the castle and surrounding properties with wood sourced from the estate. They have also implemented a hydroelectric scheme that generates power for sale on the grid, as well as supplying energy to the Beinn and Tuirc Distillery – Kintyre’s only small-batch craft distillery – housed in a renovated farm building on the estate. This distillery was a collaborative project by Niall, Emma, and Niall’s brother Kenny.

With this rich history and commitment to sustainability, we were excited when Niall and Emma reached out about one of our 10m domes, envisioned as a versatile event space. The dome will be spacious and airy, featuring excellent acoustics and plenty of natural light, making it suitable for a variety of future endeavours – from weddings to music concerts and yoga retreats. Niall and Emma have chosen the ideal location for the dome, situated next to the distillery and café, and they plan to install a log burner to ensure it remains a cosy and inviting space throughout the winter.
