Husband and wife reach for the stars with the launch of boutique glampsite

TruDomes geodesic domes are hugely popular with families and kids of all ages, but they’re also ideal for adults-only glampsites.

Their contemporary design, luxury features and ample light and space are perfect for that boutique glamping experience. They become a haven of peace and seclusion, a magical setting for a romantic getaway, a party pod or a place to share a bottle of wine and chat into the early hours while contemplating the night sky.

Stargaze Glamping in Nolton, Pembrokeshire, has that vibe in abundance. Set in a wildflower meadow overlooking the rolling countryside, it’s an adults-only site which allows you to immerse yourself in your surroundings and truly be at one with nature. Each glamping unit offers plenty of private space with its private outside seating area, fire pits and wood-fired hot tubs with views over the surrounding countryside.

Stargaze is the vision of husband-and-wife team, Emily and Simon. It started in 2015 when they decided to rent out a shepherd’s hut which Simon had built for their wedding night. Two years later, they built a second hut for rent – both occupying a caravan park owned by Simon’s mother – before going it alone in 2020 with their own site.

They relocated the huts and became part of the Woodlands Champions Club in 2022, allowing them to expand the site with more units. They added two stargazing geodomes, called Orion and Taurus, both supplied by TruDomes. Each dome has a king-size bed and it’s personal bathroom pod with a shower, sink and toilet situated just outside.

For Emily and Simon, opting to invest in geodomes instead of more shepherd’s huts was a relatively easy decision.

Emily explained:

“I guess the biggest factor for us was price point and appeal. Even if we were to make another hut, it would have cost us so much more with material prices increasing so much. We did look at buying a hut again, but a geodome offered what we felt was a similar level of luxury for less money. As geodomes are relatively new to the glamping market, people love the domes and what they offer. They are definitely our most popular units, so we are so glad we went with them instead of more huts.”

Having decided to go with geodomes, Emily and Simon began their homework and settled on TruDomes as the answer.

Emily said:

“We did an awful lot of research into geodomes. After several phone calls with various companies, we decided that TruDomes fitted what we were after on several points. They offered the price point we wanted, the spec of the domes was fantastic, and every single person we dealt with in the company was so helpful and never made us feel like just another number to them. We ended up taking what felt like a huge gamble by purchasing two domes from email pictures without seeing them first. That’s how confident we were that they were going to offer us a great product! We did take a look at some of their domes afterwards at the Glamping Show before ours were shipped, and we knew 100% that we’d made the right decision. What made us love them most was the British flag. We were buying a British-made product, and if we needed any questions answered, it was a company based in the UK.”

Sustainability is a big factor in the running of Stargaze Glamping. Emily described the care they put into the management of the site and its natural surroundings:

“We wanted to keep our luxury vibe whilst trying to be sustainable. The two things don’t always go hand in hand, but we looked at ways we can help the environment without compromising the glamping experience. We actively encourage wildflowers to grow and are currently trying to grow our own wildflower meadow, but we have sewn wildflowers along the banks between each unit too. We have a non-chemical solution in our hot tubs that we use to water our wildflowers in the summer months, and we also are proud to be almost 100% self-sufficient, producing our own electricity via our wind turbine that powers both the farm and glamping site. As part of our Woodland Champions partnership, we’ve planted nearly 500 trees and bushes around our site to encourage more wildlife and reduce our carbon footprint. To help reduce food miles, we provide complimentary hampers with only Pembrokeshire produce sold at Nolton Cross Farm Shop, only a few hundred yards up the road, which is also a separate business we own.”

Like the wildlife surrounding the site, Stargaze is thriving. Bookings are flowing from all corners while Emily and Simon are looking at ways of working with local businesses to enhance the glamping experience.

Emily said:

“We are open to hen parties. We have never hosted one, but we would love the opportunity to do it. We also love the idea of bringing other businesses together on our site and a hen party could be perfect for that, with local gin tasting and local food cooked for them onsite.”

Emily and Simon have created something genuinely special – and TruDomes are delighted to see our domes have a starring role in this success story.
