Creating Inclusive Retreats on the Cornish Coast

3 Coastal Domes

Nestled on Cornwall’s Rame Peninsula, WilderMe is more than a glamping destination – it’s a place where nature, wellbeing and inclusion come together. Founded as a Community Interest Company (CIC), WilderMe was created to make nature, wellbeing and experiences more accessible to the neurodivergent community.

Through autism-friendly retreats, SEND family breaks and nature-based wellbeing programmes, the site provides a welcoming environment where autistic adults, neurodivergent individuals and SEND families can unwind, reconnect and enjoy meaningful experiences in a space designed around their needs.

As interest in these unique retreats continued to grow, the team needed accommodation that would enhance the guest experience while supporting their vision for the site. They were looking for a solution that combined comfort, durability and visual appeal, while remaining in harmony with the surrounding landscape.

After exploring their options, WilderMe selected TruDomes’ geodesic domes to help create distinctive accommodation that reflected the quality, inclusivity and connection to nature at the heart of the retreat.

Finding the Right Fit

As WilderMe grew, the team needed accommodation that reflected their values while meeting the practical demands of a busy retreat destination on Cornwall’s rugged coastline.

We chose TruDomes because they are British-made, aligning with our CIC ethos of keeping things as local as possible. After seeing them in person at the showroom and observing how beautiful and well-made they are, we knew they were the perfect choice for our glamping site.

For WilderMe, the domes offered the ideal combination of quality, durability and comfort. Built to withstand Cornwall’s unpredictable coastal weather while providing a welcoming space for guests throughout the year, they were a natural fit for a retreat destination committed to creating exceptional outdoor experiences.

Supporting Accessibility and Inclusion

Creating spaces where everyone feels welcome has always been central to WilderMe’s mission. The addition of the new domes has helped take that commitment even further by enabling the site to offer wheelchair-accessible accommodation.

This important step allows WilderMe to welcome a wider range of guests and ensure more people can experience the benefits of connecting with nature in a safe and supportive environment. For a business built on inclusion, it’s more than an accommodation upgrade – it’s another step towards making the outdoors accessible to all.

Enhancing the Guest Experience

Today, the domes are at the heart of the WilderMe experience, providing guests with a comfortable base from which to relax, reconnect with nature and enjoy everything the site has to offer. With panoramic views across the Cornish coastline and access to communal spaces for connection and relaxation, the domes provide the perfect balance of comfort and immersion in the outdoors.

Guests enjoy feeling protected, secure and sheltered while sleeping in the domes. They also love waking up to the view outside the amazing panoramic window. Sometimes the Cornish weather can be wild and unpredictable, but our guests don’t mind that when they have a cosy safe space to relax in and watch the world go by.”

The domes have also proven perfectly suited to Cornwall’s exposed coastal environment.

Now that the domes are up, we knew we’d made the right choice as they are keeping our guests cosy amongst the wild Cornish weather!

By providing a warm, secure and comfortable retreat throughout the year, the domes have become an important part of the welcoming and inclusive experience that WilderMe is known for.

Investing in the Future

For WilderMe, the new domes represent more than an accommodation upgrade. They are an investment in the future of the organisation and its mission to make nature-based experiences more accessible to the neurodivergent community.

Getting these new geodomes has been a massive upgrade for our CIC. It not only makes our retreats more luxurious and attractive for prospective attendees but also ensures we can continue our vital work for many more years due to the quality and sturdiness of the builds.

By enhancing the guest experience and providing durable, high-quality accommodation, the domes have given WilderMe a strong foundation for future growth and continued impact.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

Alongside the quality of the domes themselves, the WilderMe team highlighted the support they received throughout the project.

The whole process of upgrading our domes has been a pleasure from start to finish! We’ve felt really looked after by TruDomes and will recommend them to anyone looking to purchase one for themselves.

For WilderMe, the domes are more than accommodation. They are helping create a place where more people can experience the restorative power of nature, feel truly welcome and enjoy the freedom to simply be themselves.
