How One Couple Built a Glamping Dome Haven in the Welsh Countryside at Cae Nant Glamping
For years, teacher Charlie, and engineer Gareth dreamed of owning a piece of land where they could welcome guests, keep horses, and embrace their love of the outdoors. Living in Wales they had the outdoors on their doorstep but spent years searching for the perfect spot. Eventually, fate led them to Tynant and their glamping site Cae Nant Glamping.
The property needed serious work, but the couple didn’t hesitate. Armed with determination, and plenty of YouTube tutorials, they rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Gareth even taught himself how to re-roof the house. With two children in tow, they embraced every challenge. Together they transformed the run-down site into a warm, welcoming retreat.
Finding Their Glamping Style
At first, Charlie and Gareth explored the idea of a traditional caravan site. However tricky access to the field made them reconsider. Their search for the perfect accommodation continued until they visited the Glamping Show at the NEC and stepped inside a geodome for the first time.
“The space was so unique—quirky, peaceful, and surprisingly quiet inside,” Charlie recalls. That visit sparked the deep love for domes.
Turning to TruDomes for Quality and Support
They purchased their first dome from a different supplier. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t meet their expectations. They faced persistent bathroom issues and struggled with poor customer service. As a result, they began looking for a better solution. That’s when they found TruDomes.
“We loved the dome concept and were looking for a better experience,” Charlie explains. “From the moment we contacted TruDomes, we were impressed. The product quality is excellent, and the customer service is second to none. We knew we’d found our new supplier.”
A Site Designed for Experiences
Charlie and Gareth worked hard to bring their vision to life. Now they offer three luxury glamping domes Each one is uniquely styled and thoughtfully equipped. The domes feature panoramic windows that frame the surrounding Welsh countryside. Every dome includes private bathrooms, cooking facilities, fire pits and hot tubs. And to top it off, Charlie is always on hand with her award-winning homemade treats to treat the guests.
Expanding into Events with a Stunning 8m Dome
With glamping site up and running, they expanded in December 2024 by adding an impressive 8m event dome. This versatile space quickly became popular for hosting birthday celebrations, hen and stag parties, workshops, retreats and much more, even weddings.
Set against a stunning rural backdrop, the event dome provides the perfect setting for a unique celebration. One couple, who first visited in 2022 and enjoyed walking in the local area, including hiking up Snowdon, fell in love with the site and have since booked their entire wedding there for July 2025.
Remote, Relaxing and TV-Approved
The site itself is surrounded by rolling hills and unspoilt countryside, offering guests the perfect place to relax from busy lives. Yet it remains conveniently close to local towns for any essentials. With clear night skies and peaceful atmosphere, it’s no wonder their tagline is:
“We don’t have five stars – we have a billion”
In fact, the site was recently features on the TV programme Celebrity Hunted, where Christine McGuiness and Duncan James spent a couple of days hiding from the hunters. One memorable scene even shows Christine enjoying a cup of tea in the dome whilst soaking in the stunning surroundings through the panoramic window.
A Lifestyle Built on Passion
Charlie has now left teaching to focus full-time on the site, pouring her energy into creating unforgettable experiences for guests. Beyond the domes, the couple’s passion for animals shines through—they share their land with five rescue ponies, 12 chickens, a cat, a dog, and a few cheeky sheep (who occasionally pop by to say hello).
What began as a dream is now a thriving, family-run glamping escape, where every stay feels personal, peaceful, and a little bit magical.
