Did you know that the World Tourist Organisation forecasts that ecotourism will be the fastest growing segment of the tourist industry, all the way up to the year 2020? That’s a truly impressive statistic, and one that means there’s never been a better time to get a piece of the action.
Defined as ‘responsible travel to natural and cultural areas that conserves the environment and sustains the wellbeing of local people’ (Ecotourism Society Board of Directors), glamping is a natural fit for the industry, but we’re going one step further to say why we think geodesic domes in particular are the perfect way to enjoy this new trend, both as a tourist and a business.
We’ve talked before about the environmental benefits of domes – their shape is conducive to more efficient heating, as well as solar panel charging, and fewer materials are needed for their construction to make them more sustainable even at manufacturing level. They can even use recycled or recyclable materials (ours are made with highly recyclable aluminium) – perfect for the eco-conscious tourist.
The fantastic views offered by the unique shape of the geodesic dome mean an even easier escape into nature too, which is perfect to allow campers the opportunity to interact with nature while remaining comfortable. And interestingly, this type of camping, or glamping, makes it easy or even natural for businesses to promote sustainable products such as environmentally-friendly cleaning products or solar and wind power – building a more eco-aware society simply by going on holiday!
Of course, spending all that time outside is bound to have a positive effect on campers too, which means that even if you’re not an ecotourist before your holiday, you may well leave as one.
