Nestled on the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula, Torrisdale Castle Estate features a historic 19th-century mansion. The Macalister Hall family has owned it for five generations since 1870. Just steps from a private sandy beach, the estate boasts panoramic views of Torrisdale Bay.
In the 1980s, Mary and Donald Macalister Hall diversified the estate into a self-catering business with cottages and eco bothies. Today, their son Niall and his wife Emma manage the estate, continuing its growth with new ventures.
Sustainability at Torrisdale Castle
Torrisdale Castle Estate prioritises sustainability. A biomass boiler heats the castle and nearby properties using wood from the estate, while a hydroelectric scheme generates power sold to the grid. The estate’s Beinn and Tuirc Distillery, Kintyre’s only small-batch craft distillery, also benefits from this renewable energy.
TruDomes for Weddings, Yoga, and More
Niall and Emma introduced a TruDomes geodesic dome to expand the estate’s offerings. The 10m dome, placed next to the distillery and café, serves multiple purposes. It hosts weddings, conferences, yoga classes, festivals, theatre, live music, and pop-up dining events.
