Nestled in Snowdonia National Park on the banks of the River Tryweryn, Tyn Cornel is a picturesque caravan, camping and glamping site featuring a luxury glamping dome. With stunning landscapes and a prime location in a designated Dark Sky Zone, it offers the perfect setting for guests to immerse themselves in nature and gaze at the breath-taking night skies.
A Family Legacy of Outdoor Hospitality
Stephen and Cathryn Johnson have spent the past six years transforming Tyn Cornel into a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts. With a family history in camping and caravan sites dating back to the 1950s, they brought both experience and passion to the project.
When they first acquired the site, it featured hard-standing and grass pitches for caravans and campers, along with basic glamping options—two pods in a bunk-style setup and bell tents. Whilst the bell tents were functional they becoming outdated. They wanted something that offered a touch of luxury—something more durable, comfortable and capable of enhancing the guest experience, especially under the spectacular night skies.
Discovering TruDomes: A Perfect Fit for Luxury Glamping
In 2022, Stephen and Cathryn attended the Holiday Park & Resort Show at the NEC, where they discovered TruDomes geodomes. Instantly, they knew these structures were the ideal addition to their site. Offering a perfect blend of resilience and luxury, TruDomes provided a warm, stylish and weather-resistant retreat, allowing guests to enjoy the beauty of Snowdonia in total comfort.
Today, their glamping dome is fully equipped with wood-burning stove and chic furnishings, creating a cosy and inviting space for couples, friends, and families looking for a unique getaway. Whether seeking adventure or relaxation, guests can unwind in comfort while staying connected to the natural surroundings.
A Passionate Team and a Thriving Community
To help manage the site, Stephen & Cathryn brought on Lowri & Jay, a local couple who have been the heart of Tyn Cornel for the past four years. Introduced through a mutual friend, Lowri embraced the opportunity to manage the site and now dedicates herself full-time from March to November. Alongside Jay, she oversees everything from cleaning to maintenance, ensuring that every guest has a seamless and memorable stay.
Despite living in such a beautiful location, Lowri never takes the countryside for granted. She and Jay can often be found in the middle of the field with a telescope, sharing the wonder of the pristine night skies with visitors—a truly magical experience for those escaping the city lights.
Adventure Meets Tranquillity
Located next to the National White Water Centre, Tyn Cornel attracts a mix of adrenaline-seekers eager to tackle the rapids and nature lovers looking to soak in the serenity of the landscape. Surrounded by rolling farmland, guests are also treated to a farm-to-table experience, with fresh organic milk available from vending machines, supplied directly from Stephen & Cathryn’s dairy farm just 30 minutes away.
With its breath-taking location, luxurious glamping dome and passionate team, Tyn Cornel is more than just a glamping site—it’s an experience. Whether guests are looking for adventure, relaxation or a chance to marvel at the stars, Tyn Cornel offers something truly special.
Looking Ahead to 2025
For the 2025 season they will be extending the site to offer another field with more pitches available for booking.
“There were already pods on the site when we first purchased it, and we wanted to expand on that. Initially, we set up bell tents, but as they became outdated, we wanted to offer something more luxurious—something that retained heat and gave guests the chance to fully experience the stunning night sky. We saw TruDomes geodomes at the NEC and loved the concept. They were incredibly helpful and efficient throughout the whole process. The instructions were clear and easy to follow and we had the dome up and running in no time. Our guests absolutely love it.”
A big thank you to Stephen, Cathryn, Lowri & Jay for trusting TruDomes to bring their vision to life. If you’re looking for an unforgettable stay in Snowdonia, Tyn Cornel is the place to be!
