The Geodesic Dome is a relatively new concept in the hospitality and events sphere, however, without a doubt domes are taking the world by storm and are becoming more and more popular. TruDomes manufacture geodesic domes in the UK, in the heart of England and have been manufacturing for over 40 years now.
History of the Dome
Let’s rewind to the late 1940s, when American engineer and architect Richard Buckminster Fuller, nicknamed ‘Bucky’, designed the first geodesic dome. His sphere-like structure used a network of triangles to create a strong, balanced framework using minimal materials.
But Bucky wasn’t the first to explore this concept. After World War I, Walther Bauersfeld, chief engineer at the Carl Zeiss optical company, designed the very first geodesic dome to house his planetarium project. Built in Germany, his larger version, known as The Wonder of Jena, opened to the public in 1926.
Today’s domes rely on a framework of metal struts arranged in a precise geometric pattern for strength and stability. At TruDomes, we use aircraft-grade aluminium struts wherever possible, delivering long-lasting durability and resistance to the elements.
Modern Day Domes
Domes now appear all over the world, serving a wide range of purposes — from glamping accommodation and event venues to yoga retreats, weddings, small gatherings, unique dining spots, classrooms, and more. Their striking, futuristic design and unmatched versatility make them one of the most popular choices for outdoor spaces.
At TruDomes, we build domes in a variety of sizes, which can make it tricky to choose the right one for your needs, whether you’re setting up a business or creating a personal retreat. That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide to help you find the perfect fit.
Choosing the Right Dome Size for Your Glamping or Event Space
Dome size plays a key role in guest comfort and the kind of experience you want to offer. At TruDomes, we offer a range of popular sizes to suit both glamping stays and large-scale events.
The 6m dome is a favourite for couples or small families. It offers a cosy, private space for relaxation. Need more room? The 7m dome is ideal for families. It provides extra space while keeping that snug glamping feel. The 8m dome bridges both worlds. It works well for larger family groups or as a luxury event space. This size is perfect for small weddings, yoga classes, or creative workshops. For bigger events, our 10m and 12m domes deliver space, impact and comfort. They’re ideal for wedding celebrations, wellness retreats, or standout corporate events.
One major benefit of TruDomes is how quick they are to assemble and dismantle. You can set up glamping domes or event spaces in no time. This flexibility helps you adapt your setup to suit changing needs.
