Proving Location Isn’t a Limitation for Events
Nestled on Scotland’s west coast on the Kintyre Peninsula, near Campbeltown, Torrisdale Castle Estate is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience shaped by landscape, heritage and creativity.
With luxury accommodation, a working distillery crafting gin and rum, and a welcoming café at its heart, the estate has become a unique, multi-faceted destination, attracting visitors seeking both relaxation and experience-led stays. As the business has evolved, so too has the ambition behind it.
Looking to bring people together in new ways, Niall and Emma introduced a TruDomes geodesic dome in May 2024. The vision was simple: a flexible event space that could host everything from intimate wellness sessions to lively celebrations while standing up to the elements of the west coast.
The result is a striking, all-weather event dome that has added a new dimension to the estate where community, events and unforgettable experiences now come together under one roof.
Outgrowing Existing Spaces
As Torrisdale Castle Estate evolved, so did the expectations of its visitors. While existing indoor spaces worked well for smaller, intimate experiences such as gin making sessions, they quickly reached their limits. At the same time. demand was growing for something more. Enquiries began to shift toward larger, more immersive experiences including:
- Private celebrations and dining events
- Wellness sessions from yoga to sound baths
- Community-led workshops and pop-ups
The opportunity was clear but so was the challenge: how to create a larger, multi-purpose event space without the cost, complexity and longevity of a traditional build.
A Smarter Way To Expand
The answer came in the form of a dome, offering a smarter, more flexible way expand. Quicker to install and far more adaptable than a permanent structure, it gave Niall and Emma the freedom to create a scalable event space that could evolve alongside the business.
Installed in-house by the Torrisdale team, the geodesic dome structure quickly became more than just a practical solution, it unlocked the ability to host larger events while maintaining the flexibility that the estate needed to operate day-to-day.
Its real test came in early 2025, when severe storms hit the west coast, bringing winds of up to 90 mph. Trees fell across the estate, but the dome stood firm, proving its resilience as a durable outdoor event structure in one of Scotland’s most exposed landscapes.
One Space, Endless Possibilities
What began as a solution has become one of the most versatile event venues on the estate, shifting seamlessly between wellness space, wedding venue and community hub.
By day, the dome provides a calm, light-filled setting for yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and sound baths, led by local practitioners. This not only generates steady rental income but also encourages guests to spend more time across the estate.
As the atmosphere shifts, so does the space. The dome transforms into a warm, inviting event venue for weddings, hen parties, anniversary dinners and birthday celebrations, comfortably hosting up to 50 guests.
It also plays a vital role in bringing the community together, hosting craft and art fairs, pop-up markets and open days, demonstrating the flexibility of a true multi-use event space.
More Than Just A Space
Since its installation, the dome has reshaped how the estate operates and delivered measurable benefits:
- Increased revenue through event space hire and events
- Greater footfall across multiple areas of the business
- Enhanced guest experience, with visitors consistently impressed by the dome’s spacious interior
While Torrisdale’s remote location means demand remains seasonal, the event dome has extended both the range and frequency of activities across the site. What began as a practical addition has become something far more valuable: a flexible event venue that brings people together, whatever the occasion.
